Responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care for the pre-operative patient and to efficiently prepare the surgical patient for the intra-operative procedure. Responsible to assure all nursing documentation, laboratory testing, EKG's and H&P's are complete and in date. Works closely with all staff, anesthesiologist and surgeons provide continuity of care. Prepares each patient in a timely manner, following all hospital policies, procedures and standards of care. Assures that proper communication is given to the appropriate surgical team member for special patient needs. Maintains competent nursing skills to ensure safe quality patient care. The RN assures that the philosophy, mission, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of Fort Smith Mercy Medical and Mercy Outpatient Surgery Center are followed. Is sensitive to the needs of patients, families and fellow co-workers; plans and provides professional nursing care for patients in accordance with age specific needs, plans and provides professional nursing care for patients in accordance with any identified cultural diversity needs (such as religions, lifestyles, beliefs, physical capabilities, and cultures); plans and provides professional nursing care for patients by assuring appropriate and effective pain management; and supports the mission of Mercy. Position Details: Pre-Op Registered Nurse (RN) Mercy Hospital Washington - Cardiovascular Part-Time | Day Shift *No Weekends, No call and No Holidays! Come be part of a compassionate, mission?driven team that puts patients first. Mercy Hospital Washington is seeking a skilled and caring Pre?Op RN to join our Cardiovascular Pre-Operative team. In this role, you'll prepare patients for surgery, provide exceptional education and support, and ensure a smooth, safe experience from the moment they arrive. Why You'll Love This Role * Day shift, part-time schedule (24 hrs/week) * No Weekends, No call and No Holidays * Strong teamwork with anesthesiologists, surgeons & OR staff * Make a meaningful impact during a critical part of the patient's surgical journey * Work in a supportive, faith?based healthcare environment * Opportunities to grow your clinical skills and expertise What You'll Do As a Pre?Op RN, you will: Patient Care & Preparation * Perform comprehensive pre?operative assessments—physical, emotional, and mental. * Ensure all documentation is complete (H&Ps, consents, labs, EKGs, radiology, etc.). * Prepare patients for surgery efficiently while following all hospital standards. * Provide clear pre?operative teaching and emotional support. * Assess pain and discuss postoperative expectations. Clinical Excellence * Maintain strong IV skills and knowledge of medications administered pre?op. * Document accurately in Epic (assessment, allergies, meds, vitals, pain, orders, checklists). * Identify concerns and communicate promptly with anesthesia, surgeons, and OR staff. * Utilize all patient safety checklists and follow infection control standards. Teamwork & Communication * Keep the OR team updated on patient readiness and any schedule changes. * Collaborate closely with all surgical team members to ensure continuity of care. * Support teammates and contribute to a positive, respectful work environment. Operational Responsibilities * Maintain department organization, supplies, and patient flow. * Ensure accurate charge capture and cost?effective practices. * Uphold confidentiality, professionalism, and the Mercy mission and values. Qualifications Required: * Graduate of an accredited nursing program * Current RN licensure (state of practice) * CPR certification * 1 year of hospital or cardiac experience preferred Preferred: * 2 years of hospital cardiac telemetry experience * ACLS certification Why Mercy?
