Boeing Phantom Works is seeking a Senior Product System Safety
Engineer (Level 5) to join our team in the St. Louis, MO area .
Phantom Works is a division of Boeing Defense, Space and Security
utilizing advanced technologies to rapidly develop pre-production
prototypes. We are looking for talented system engineers to join
our team in developing the next generation of Fixed Wing
aircraft.
The selected candidate will provide the technical guidance and
perform critical system safety engineering work. The work will
consist of planning, coordinating, and performing detailed System
Safety tasks such as system and subsystem hazard analysis, fault
tree analysis, and software safety analysis to mitigate potential
product safety hazards. The selected candidate will assist with
evaluation of customer/operational needs to define system
performance requirements, as well as integrating technical
parameters to assure compatibility of physical, functional, and
program interfaces. In addition to working with System Safety
personnel, the individual will work extensively with design,
development, and test personnel to impart safety requirements early
in the design process. These tasks are accomplished within a
collaborative environment with other program teams to assist with
and/or plan design, develop, and verify lifecycle balanced system
solutions including resolution of cross-functional technical
issues.
Position Responsibilities:
Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan,
design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced system of systems,
system solutions/system architecture.
Evaluation of customer/operational needs to define system
performance requirements and derived safety requirements, as well
integration of technical parameters to assure compatibility of
physical, functional, and program interfaces.
Design activities to provide advice and counsel on pertinent
regulatory, safety and environmental requirements, reviewing
preliminary configurations, and strengthening integration of hazard
and chemical risk management practices.
Performs various analyses to optimize total system of systems
and/or system architecture.
Performs analyses in supporting safety, reliability,
maintainability, testability, human systems integration,
survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, regulatory,
certification, product assurance and other engineering development
specialty factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission
success.
Resolves cross-functional technical issues.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate
will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security
Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post-Start is
required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited
course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics,
physics or chemistry.
15+ years of engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Active Secret or higher clearance.
Military aircrew, maintenance, or operations experience.
Working knowledge and experience developing/applying aviation
related system safety analysis methods such as System Safety Risk
Assessments, Fault-tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Hazard
Assessment (FHA) and Safety Assessment Report (SAR).
Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical
education from an accredited course of study in engineering,
computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor)
and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an
equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g.
PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work
experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred,
although not required, accreditation standard.
