Job Description Job Description Additional Information About the Role DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION - Unit 14400/14500 Acute Care Medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (South Campus) - 38-Bed Unit REQUIREMENTS & HIGHLIGHTS - Great opportunity for those transitioning into nurse management - BSN required - Requires 2 to 5 years RN experience - This is a Mid-Shift / Evening Exempt Opportunity (Shift starts between 1-3PM) - Flexibility to work four 10's or five 8's per week Monday thru Friday - Periodic on-call weekends and holidays may be needed occasionally - Benefits eligible the first day of the month following start date - 401K RECRUITMENT SELLING POINTS FOR NURSE STAFFING - Patient to RN Ratio = 4:1 - BJH Med/Surg Differential $5.00 per hour following completion of unit orientation for direct pt care work - BJH Enhanced MED Sign-On Bonus and/or Student Loan Repayment w/2 or more yrs RN experience - BJH Enchanced MED Bene-Receive 36 Hours PTO following 90-Days employment w/2 or more yrs RN exp Overview Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Acute Care Medicine has patients with a full range of clinical issues-from significant blood dyscrasias, advanced endocrine pathology, heart and renal failure, GI conditions, infectious diseases, asthma and a multitude of other conditions and diseases.¿ Due to the patient acuity on the nursing division, we provide advanced training to bring new nurses to the highest level of functioning.¿ Each unit is lead by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse.¿ The unit is supported by an advanced practice nurse.¿ Additionally each unit is assigned a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist.¿ This multidisciplinary team works in conjunction with the physicians, nurses and patient care technicians to provide quality patient care. Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose The Assistant Nurse Manager provides administrative support to Nurse Managers and direct reports. This includes coordinating patient care, performance management of direct reports, equipment purchasing/management, and statistical accumulation. Responsibilities - Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership. - May participate in the development of departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets and having direct responsibility for adhering to those goals. This includes responding to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals. - Provides and oversees patient care according to planned interventions with regard to their age and developmental needs to attain the patient's optimal level of wellness and documents according to policy. - Creates and ensures implementation of a collaborative plan of care based on assessment, diagnosis and medical treatment. - May support the review of staff hours worked vs scheduled hours and determine appropriate disposition if variation exists. Perform and approve daily payroll updates. Reconcile time cards, bonus tracking and coding approval. Prepare, coordinate and execute all staff communications; prepare huddle agendas and lead meeting. Determine staffing needs; make nursing assignments as well as assign overtime. Recommend effective annual increases. Interview staff for open positions; evaluate and conduct performance reviews as assigned; draft and issue corrective actions/coaching; follow up regarding any disciplinary action to determine compliance. - Responsible for staff productivity and the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership. Conducts performance evaluations and makes recommendations on areas of improvement if needed. - BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position.
